With 40 lbs of large format camera equipment on my back, I set out on the Ramsey Cascades trail of Great Smoky Mt National Park, TN, very early one Spring morning. The trail to the Ramsey Cascades is 8 miles round trip and gains over 2,000 feet in elevation from the trail head to the falls. It is one of the park's more strenuous hikes. The hike in-and-out took a full day. When I arrived at the Ramsey Cascades, a waterfall dropping over 100 feet and the tallest waterfall in the park, I studied the scene, as I usually do, before deciding how I wanted to interpret on film what nature had created. My love of black & white reached out to me as I looked on at the rock structure underlying the falls. I placed these in a rich black zone and opened the exposure to contrast the dark rocks against flowing white waters. My interpretation of Ramsey Cascades goes beyond its natural look and this fine art print if offered as an unique and elegant landscape.
